As we monitor the ever-changing situation caused by Covid-19, it is interesting to see how businesses respond to the challenge. We’re seeing an increase in flexibility and diversification as businesses and teams have quickly changed their working practices and strategic direction.
We have seen people, communities, and businesses committed to supporting each other and the NHS.
The Serviced Apartment and Hotel sector has responded to Covid-19 by providing safe and alternative accommodation to key and essential workers, those stuck abroad unable to travel home, and to businesses that are protecting vital teams.
Of course, whilst we are proud to support the crisis in any way we can, travel, hospitality, hotels, serviced apartments and accommodation specialists are being hit hard by the pandemic.
A survey from China’s largest online travel agency Trip.com showed that as of mid-March, more than 1,000 tourist sites had reopened to visitors across the country and experience has demonstrated how business travel is likely to be one of the first areas to recover as organisations return to what will perhaps be a “new normal”.
Alongside this we are likely to see a change in leisure travel with a continued rise in the “staycation”. UK tourism businesses are reporting a rise of up to 40% in traffic to their websites. [Source: The Guardian].
According to Serviced Apartment News, the rise in domestic travel after the pandemic presents an exciting new business opportunity, as previous international travellers look for a home from home in their own country rather than abroad:
“It was very encouraging to hear economist Roger Bootle talk to a global audience on Bench Events’ Hospitality Tomorrow virtual conference” says George Sell for Serviced Apartment News. “Describing the current situation as completely unprecedented, Bootle said he expects to see “a sharp recovery when we have passed the worst”. There was quite a bit of talk about staycations, and consumers taking holidays in their own country rather than flying to foreign destinations. What a great opportunity for serviced apartment and aparthotel operators to cater to an emerging demographic.”
The Apartment Network team remain committed throughout this time of uncertainty and we will be there for our customers and suppliers when things improve. We are in this together and we will get through this together. Our team is on hand to answer questions and to support our network at this time of need.
